Yvonne van de Meent (1958) is freelance journalist, specialized in (higher) education. Her main assignments are editing a magazine for students at Dutch teacher training colleges and conducting investigative projects for the magazine of the AOb, the largest teachers union in the Netherlands. Last year she produced for example an in-depth profile of the biggest Dutch university of professional education (40,000 students), which revealed great discontent with the educational policy among students and lecturers. She analyses annually the financial year reports of the Dutch universities of professional education and the community colleges. Those investigations revealed amongst others that some of the top executives of universities and colleges, earn more than the Dutch prime minister and, on the other hand, that staff/student-ratios are dropping, a process that is undermining the educational quality.
Yvonne van de Meent studied Human Nutrition at Wageningen University and has worked for university papers and magazines since her graduation in 1984. In 2003 she started her freelance career.
